OPERATION Christmas Child is issuing a final appeal as the deadline for handing in donated goods approaches.

The shoeboxes, which will be sent to less-fortunate children mainly in Eastern Europe, must be handed in by Thursday at the charity’s main storehouse, the Home and Office Storage Company in Station Road, Weston.

Area co-ordinator Geraldine Burgess said: “If anybody has got a box they’d still like to donate, just drop it off at Home and Office Storage.

“We need to have the boxes by Thursday because we need to get them all ready to be taken away by our lorries.”

Although donation numbers are thought to be down on last year, where around 5,000 boxes were collected in Weston and North Somerset, several thousand are expected to be shipped abroad, with Belarus one of the destinations.
