A 'fire' has reportedly been burning at a nature reserve in Uphill today (Thursday), with a large plume of smoke still visible this afternoon.

Neither Avon Fire and Rescue Service or Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say they have attended. Avon Fire however says it is aware of the incident.

Pictures sent to the Mercury show the smoke at the Walborough Nature Reserve in Uphill, which is run by the Avon Wildlife Trust, at around 11.30am this morning.

Jacqueline Caven, who sent in the images, suggested a haystack could be on fire.

The high temperatures have caused wildfires elsewhere in the country in recent days, but there is no indication at the moment if that is the case in Uphill today.

The Mercury has contacted the wildlife trust and is awaiting a comment.
