FIRE crews rushed out with hoses and buckets of water - to wash dirty cars in Cheddar.
The sound of sponge on windscreen was heard in the Somerset village on Saturday as members of Cheddar Fire Station cleaned vehicles to raise money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.
The fund was formed at the end of World War Two to support the widows and orphans of firefighters killed during the war. It now supports widows, children, support staff and retired personnel with services such as financial advice.
