Three fire services were required to rescue a stranded horse from a ditch this morning (Tuesday).
Appliances from Cheddar, Trowbridge and Bedminster – from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and Avon Fire and Rescue Service respectively – were called at 10.51am to Old Coach Road in Weare after receiving reports of a horse stuck in a water-filled ditch.
Crews donned their dry suits and set up specialist equipment in preparation for the rescue.
The 15-hand horse, which was lying on its side, was unable to get up and was lifted to safety.
It was left in the care of its owner and a vet.
