MORE than 50 courageous souls braved fire and wind on Thursday to take part in a charity firewalk.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) held the inaugural event on the resorts beach and which saw daring participants walk five metres across the hot coals, the temperatures of which reached 800 degrees Fahrenheit.

The participants, who included 78-year-old Pat Keen, raised more than £10,000 for the charity at the event, which also featured fire-throwers, a firework display and live drumming.

Organiser Sophie Crossman said: “We would like to say a huge thank-you to all the firewalkers. Not only did they manage to face their fears and take on the hot coal challenge, they also raised a fantastic amount of much needed funds for CHSW.

“The atmosphere on the night was great and the crowd really showed their support for the walkers.”
