A team of Weston life-savers moved into their new base this week, two years after quitting their former Oxford Street home because the building was no longer fit for purpose.

First aid charity St John Ambulance has set up home on the Oldmixon Industrial Estate, and volunteers held their first training night at the new HQ on Monday. They had been using a temporary facility at the Royal Hotel since 2014 while searching for a permanent home.

The Weston unit is one of the organisation’s busiest in the South West, with its volunteers providing cover for a range of events both regionally and nationally.

Regional facilities manager Philip Walker previously told the Mercury: “It’s been a long and sometimes difficult search, but I’m glad we finally have a new base that we can all be proud of in North Somerset.”
