Several events are planned in Yatton over the coming months to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

The milestone’s commemorations will begin on October 28 at the Masonic hall with the launch of the 2018 Poppy Appeal and the reforming of the village’s Royal British Legion branch. A lunch will be held at 12.30pm.

The week or so before Remembrance Sunday will be particularly busy, with a sponsored lunch being organised for 1.30pm on November 3 at the rugby club. Funds raised will go to the Poppy Appeal.

On November 9, a short service for Yatton’s schoolchildren will be held at the war memorial at 11am and at 2pm on November 10 a walk around for village’s memorials will take place.

On Remembrance Sunday itself, a memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church at 10am ahead of the traditional two-minute silence at the Rock Road memorial at 11am. The rugby club will host a lunch for legion members afterwards.
