Building on a greenfield site in Yatton will only make existing flooding problems in the village worse, according to the North Somerset Levels Internal Drainage Board.

Developer Persimmon Homes wants to build 83 homes in fields off Moor Road, but the board says its plans will make flooding in the area worse and has recommended Persimmon makes several changes to its application.

The board raised its concerns in a letter published on the council’s planning website, which said: “The drainage path from this site passes into a particularly vulnerable area, which already suffers from periodic waterlogging and flooding.

“The increased volumes of surface water run-off from the development will inevitably exacerbate the existing problems in the catchment.”
