A high volume pump from Avon Fire and Rescue Service, which was sent to the Gloucesterhire floods last summer, was sent to Farleigh Road in Backwell to pump water from a number of buildings along the A370.
A driver also had to be rescued from their car on the Long Ashton Bypass after the vehicle became trapped in flood water.
Train lines at Flax Bourton have flooded and a number of services have been called to Bristol and the South West.
First Great Western is arranging for passengers to be bussed to their destinations, but commuters face delays.
