A CHURCH will host a riot of flowers, crafts and music this summer as a large flower show is reinstated after a 15 year absence.Wedmore's church council is reinstating the village flower show with a bevy of floral and craft displays on the theme Around the Levels. Concerts and special church services will also be staged over the summer weekend.Under the working title of Wedmore Flower and Arts Festival, the show could attract visitors from across the area when staged on July 15 and 16.Organiser and St Mary's reader Michael Gelder said: "It will be a lot more than a flower show. The flower arrangers will display different aspects of life in Wedmore and the levels through their arrangements. This could be anything from the quarries to plants, animals and farming."There will be in the region of 24 big flower arrangements, mostly created by Cheddar Flower Club and all the pillars and pews will be decorated."Add to that local artists hanging their work around the church and displays of traditional crafts like rope making and wool spinning."We are putting together a concert on Saturday evening called Wedmore Entertains, which will include the drama group, operatic society and singers and musicians from Kings of Wessex Community School."On Sunday we have invited Wedmore Parish Council and all the village organisations to attend a special church service among the flowers and in the evening there will be a floral choral evensong."I'm told the last flower show was in 1991 and just had flowers. I thought it was a useful event to re-introduce with a few add-ons."We aim to advertise it far and wide. There aren't that many flower festivals on this scale and I'm hoping to attract lots of people into the village." Anyone interested in contributing can call Michael on 01934 742165.
