NEARLY 40 hungry mouths are in desperate need of food – prompting an urgent plea for support from a Somerset animal charity.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill has been inundated with ill and injured baby animals during the warm spring.

It is now caring for 20 badger cubs and 15 baby foxes, and appealing for donations of cat and dog food to help keep them healthy.

Charity founder Pauline Kidner said: “Badger cubs and fox cubs forage for food, and with the dry spell continuing food is once again scarce.

“We are preparing for more orphans coming in over the next few months.”

Donations can be left at special bins in Weston’s Asda or Tesco or Jollyes pet shop in Burnham.

* Secret World is holding an open weekend on May 28-29. The centre will be open from 10am-4pm each day, and entry is free but donations are welcome.
