THE leaders of Weston's biggest football club say they are getting nowhere near the amount of match day support their club deserves. While around 1,000 people are likely to flock to the Somerset Rebels speedway races in Highbridge, Weston Football Club will be lucky to get 200 fans at the Woodspring Stadium.Club leaders have expressed their growing frustration at the lack of support for the Seagulls on match days. The side is playing at the highest level it ever has. They say until the 3,000 capacity stadium in Winterstoke Road starts filling on Saturday afternoons, the club simply cannot progress and will struggle to stay where it is.Fewer than 150 fans turned up to watch last weekend's Nationwide Conference South fixture against Thurrock. Bridgwater Town and Clevedon Town football clubs both managed to attract bigger crowds.Weston's assistant secretary Alan Cooper said: "The club achieved the status of Conference South football three seasons ago, and now after a period of adjustment to a higher level of football than the town has ever known before, the team is much more comfortable with its league status."The town has a super football stadium, capable of housing some 3,000 fans."It goes without saying that with the public and a few more spectators behind us, the club could go from strength to strength."This is in no way a criticism of the small band of loyal fans but a plea to the football loving public of Weston to come and support their club."
