The Axbridge Saxons Youth FC already runs a number of teams for boys aged from six up to 16.

But in January, it announced it wanted to give girls in Axbridge the same opportunities to play.

The Football Foundation has given the team £4,500 so it can create the three teams.

Wells MP James Heappey presented the team with a cheque during one of the girls’ training sessions on the Furlong in Axbridge.

The money comes from the Football Foundation’s Grow The Game scheme.
