FOOTBALL will be among plenty of other fun and games on offer when youngsters across the district gather to compete for the North Somerset World Cup.On May 31, 13-16-year-olds will battle it out for the top trophy, which is being sponsored by the North Somerset Times and the Weston and Somerset Mercury, at Portishead Lake Grounds.Apart from the football tournament, there will be lots of other activities for young people to enjoy.Youngsters will have the chance to navigate the lake in a canoe and take on the challenge of a 60-metre inflatable adventure run, complete with obstacles.In addition, a mobile skatepark will be putting in an appearance, along with buses packed with computers, and members of Portishead Bowls Club will be giving young people the chance to try their hand at their favourite sport.Just like the World Cup in Germany, the North Somerset World Cup will have an opening ceremony which will begin at 10.45am, then at 11am the matches will kick off.Alan Rowe, of Portishead Youth Centre, said: "It would be great to see lots of young people turn out to support those who are competing in the North Somerset World Cup. In addition to cheering the action on the pitch, there will be plenty of activities for them to take part in which will not only be fun but healthy and informative."On Saturday, Clevedon's Hand Stadium will be hosting a training day to help the energetic young footballers perform at their best on the big day.
