Mr Walmsley trained as a children’s nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital and later specialised in paediatric intensive care.
Now he will handle the day-to-day running of the Grange Road hospital in Weston-super-Mare.
He said: “I am really looking forward to working with all the staff to support them to improve the care we offer our patients.”
