Former children's nurse appointed to handle day-to-day running of Weston General Hospital

The health trust which runs Weston General Hospital has appointed a new director of operations, who will oversee its day-to-day running.

Phil Walmsley has begun his role at Weston Area Health NHS Trust, after previously holding the same position for Hichingbrooke NHS Trust in Cambridgeshire.

Mr Walmsley trained as a children’s nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital and later specialised in paediatric intensive care.

Now he will handle the day-to-day running of the Grange Road hospital in Weston-super-Mare.

He said: “I am really looking forward to working with all the staff to support them to improve the care we offer our patients.”

The Trust’s chief executive James Rimmer added: “Phil will be a tremendous asset to the board, and he is already implementing changes to improve our day-to-day business for the benefit of our patients.

“His background in nursing means he knows about life on a hospital ward and clinical departments. We are very much looking forward to working with him.”
