A trombone player who was known for having audiences in fits of laughter has died.
Leeds-born Peter Horstead, who played in Weston-super-Mare’s RAFA Concert Band, lived in Mark until a recent move to Exmoor.
He joined the Royal Marines as a band boy at the age of 15, and served for 11 years as a musician and later took up flying himself.
Mr Horstead travelled widely in Europe, and the Middle and Far East before going on to a successful career in sales.
Upon retirement, he joined the RAFA band and performed for many years before leaving due to poor health.
The band’s musical director Peter Skellon said he will be remembered as ‘a fine friend’ who always had musicians and audiences in ‘fits of laughter’.
