THE owner of a former independent girls' school has decided not to let developers loose on the historic building.Judith Webb, who was the headmistress of Rossholme in East Brent until it closed last July, has explored lots of possibilities for the former school but has decided she does not want to see it flattened to make way for new homes.Mrs Webb said: "My husband and I have taken the decision to stay at Rossholme. The nursery currently running here is safe and we will look into other business interests and other avenues. "We have had various people in to look at the site including some major developers. There are no restrictions to stop anyone flattening the building and so, at the end of the day, we decided if we can make it pay for itself we will stay."Mrs Webb will be looking into the type of business she wants to run from the former school in the following months.Rossholme has been her family home since 1956. The former headmistress took over the reins from her mother in 1986 and kept the school running for 19 years. In a letter sent out to parents of the nursery school pupils this week, Mrs Webb said: "The one year since the awful decision to close Rossholme as a school has given us the opportunity to consider all the options open to us for the future of the buildings and grounds as well as for our own future."The sight of young children, under Mrs Rees' caring guidance, continuing to enjoy what Rossholme has to offer, has made the whole idea of demolishing our home and the history it holds, unthinkable.
