A former Weston-super-Mare woman was murdered in the United States this week after a leaving a music rehearsal.
Caroline Morton-Hicks, aged 59, who once lived in Milton, had moved to Florida with her husband Brian.
According to Florida news reports, she was leaving a music rehearsal on Monday night, at around 9.55pm, when she became involved in an altercation in a car park.
She tried to run away, but the shooter chased after her and shot her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports from Florida say police do not know the sex or race of the shooter, or if there were multiple assailants.
They are going through her background in search of a motive, but have not ruled out that she was targeted at random.
Mum-of-three Caroline, who had attended Worle Community School, was married to Brian until his death in 2014.
Brian was known for running Blades nightclub in Weston, and the couple also ran a number of travel agents in and around Bristol.
They moved to Florida about 20 years ago, and Caroline continued to live in Pinellas County after his death.
She was a passionate musician, who also enjoyed kayaking and other sports.
She last visited Weston a couple of weeks ago.
The New Horizons Band, who she performed with, continued with rehearsals this week, leaving a single rose in her seat in tribute.
Florida friends described her as someone who would ‘light up a room’, popular, with a dry sense of humour.
