SIX people had to be rescued by RNLI crews after wandering too far in the mud off Weston beach. Two adults and a child were rescued by crews on Sunday. The youngster was later treated for heat exhaustion at 5.12pm.Later the same day a sunburnt and dehydrated couple were then rescued after walking out by the River Axe estuary. An early morning swimmer was also picked up by rescuers when he swam out 200 yards from Marine Lake and got stuck at 5.20am on Tuesday. Police officers and ambulance crews helped free the man from the mud and bring him back to shore. Fire officers from Weston and Bristol were then called to winch the man up from the beach. The man was eventually taken to hospital where he was treated for hypothermia. Crewman Liam McDermott said: "We all know how hot it was on Sunday and this made conditions very hard for the rescue crew working in the mud. "All areas of Weston's mudflats are dangerous and the River Axe estuary is particularly lethal. Remember to check the tide times and look behind you when swimming in the sea. Come back to shore when you notice the land getting further away.
