EIGHT cyclists are gearing up to take on 200 miles of tough pedalling in memory of a much-loved Portishead tennis player.Mark Ireland, Chris Street, Darren Evans, Simon Robertson, Dave Barnett, Paul Twiggs, John Gay and Steve Cooper will all be biking to Lands End to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.Many of the group are members of Portishead Tennis Club, and they will cycling to raise money in tribute to former player Gill Heck.Gill died suddenly in November only a week after being diagnosed with leukaemia. The chosen charity for donations at her funeral was the Meningitis Trust and the eight fund-raisers have chosen the trust, one of Gill's favourite's, for their mammoth ride.The eight cyclists are hoping to finish the ride in three days and will be staying in hostels on the way to Land's End. They will start on April 19.They are on the lookout for sponsors and are urging the people of North Somerset to help make the ride a success.Anyone who wants to make a donation should send cheques payable to the Meningitis Trust, c/o IP Services Ltd, 9 Woodhill Rd, Portishead BS20 7EU.
