CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a £4 million shipshape library in Portishead have been given the go ahead - despite objections from local residents.North Somerset planning and regulatory committee gave the green light to the revised scheme which will see the towering building at the entrance to the town's dockside development.The development will house 32 flats, library and library office as well as basement car parking.But Portishead town councillors say their comments on the amended plans were not considered by the planning and regulatory committee.Town councillors wanted to see changes including the removal of one floor, replacing the cafe with library accommodation and providing extra car parking. Town council clerk Penny Rendle told councillors a statement was faxed over to North Somerset Council the Monday morning before the library meeting.Mrs Rendle said she would be writing to North Somerset Council planning department to find out why the town council's comments were not included.
