PARENTS of a baby with severe 'flat head syndrome' are holding a cricket fun day to raise the £2,000 needed to pay for his urgent treatment.Kellie and Sam Trego's 21-week-old baby, Jack, was diagnosed with severe plagiocephaly when he was just 12 weeks old.The condition means Jack's head is flattened at the back and treatment involves the tot wearing a helmet for 23 hours a day that will reshape his head as he grows.Kellie and Sam, of Stradling Avenue, say Bristol's Frenchay Hospital is the only place in the country to offer the treatment on the NHS so the waiting list is long. The hospital confirmed that, depending on the urgency of the case, it can take 13 weeks to see a consultant and up to six months for treatment.Kellie, a 28-year-old bank clerk, said: "Time is running out before Jack's head starts to harden in the flat position. He needs the treatment now, which is why we have decided to go to a private clinic in Cardiff and raise the £2,000."The clinic took measurements of Jack's head which were sent to America where specialist manufacturers made up a life-sized model of his head and built the helmet."To raise the money Kellie and Sam, a 29-year-old postman, have organised a charity cricket match at Uphill Castle Cricket Club in Windwhistle Road on September 3.There will also be a raffle and auction with prizes including two nights in Devon, meals at restaurants around the town and signed Somerset County Cricket Club memorabilia - Sam's brother, Peter, plays for the county.Children's entertainer Nutty Noah will be on hand to keep the youngsters busy and there will be a bouncy castle.
