A BANGER racing fanatic is asking people to write a personal message on his car to raise money for charity.

Simon Carpenter, aged 34, has entered his old banger in a competition at Mendip Raceway in Shipham on August 26.

The father-of-three, who works at Proper Job in Weston, has been inviting people to sign his vehicle and more than 100 messages have now been scribbled on the paintwork.

Simon is raising money for the Meningitis Trust after his brother died of the disease 28 years ago.

He said: "My brother would be 30 now if he was still alive. He died of meningitis when he was two.

"They treated him but he was too far gone. It knocked us all for six and I just want to make sure people are aware of the symptoms so they know what to do."

Simon, of Hobart Road in Weston, has been racing bangers in Shipham for seven years.

His wife Maria and their three children, Mercedes, aged 16, Michael, aged 13, and Sapphire, aged 11, will be cheering him on during the race.
