Funding blow for Dolphin Square housing project

A multi-million-pound funding bid, which would have helped with plans to build homes at Weston’s Dolphin Square, has been rejected.
North Somerset Council sought £2.5million in funding from the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) to relocate an electricity substation.
The council, in its bid to HIF, said the substation could affect the viability of the development if it is not moved.
But a council spokesman said HIF’s decision would not negatively impact the housing development at Dolphin Square.
They added: “We are still discussing the movement of the substation and have several options.
“The funding from the HIF was just one potential avenue and will not set back the Dolphin Square development.
“The site belongs to Homes England and we continue to support it with this exciting project.”
