IT WAS pedal to the saddle for a group of fundraisers on Saturday who were generating cash for a village preschool.

A race night held at Shipham Village Hall in New Road saw people mount ‘horses’ with built-in pedals, with the idea being to out-cycle their opponent while onlookers placed bets on who would win.

The event, set up to raise money for Shipham First School and Shipham Preschool also took place 18 months ago, raising about £1,800.

Preschool committee member Rebecca Downton said: “It is majorly important to raise money for the schools, especially for the preschool because last year we did so much fundraising but they only just broke even.

“We have got to do fundraising to keep them afloat.”
