CROWDS of spectators turned up at Weston Cricket Club on Saturday to cheer on 30 fire-walkers who crossed a 20ft bed of embers.
More than 300 people supported the brave fundraisers who walked the red-hot bed of ash to raise money for Crossroads Care North Somerset.
General manager, Christine Holland took part in the Firewalk. She said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part or who sponsored a walker. Together we raised an amazing £5,800 pounds which will make a tremendous difference to the 2,500 local carers that we support. It was a fantastic evening.”
Crossroads Care offers a lifeline of support to carers and families of North Somerset and has been forced to scale down some of its services in response to tough budget cuts.
The organisation has already had a 10 per cent cut to funding for both its young carers service and the disabled children’s team and is bracing itself for a further 30 per cent reduction over the next two years for both these services.
