MENDIP Girls FC under-12s washed cars, baked cakes and held a raffle to help Topps Tiles raise money for charity on Saturday.

Six girls and four staff members raised £164 for Help For Heroes towards the store’s £1,600 target.

The company is holding a cycle race from Darlington to Portsmouth over four days next April.

Assistant manager Phil Hawkes will complete the cycle for the Weston branch alongside seven staff from other branches.

The money raised will go towards his cycle sponsorship.

The company is hoping to raise £48,000 nationally for the charity from the cycle race.

Store manager Brian King said: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time. There is always fun and frivolity when we are fundraising. It’s a great charity and we will do all we can to raise money for it.”
