Weston-super-Mare’s thrill-seekers will be pleased to hear amusement park Funland @ The Tropicana will open this week after its organisers secured an extended stint at the former lido.

Funland debuted at the Tropicana last summer.Funland debuted at the Tropicana last summer.

The event was due to run at the Trop through the school summer holidays from July 15 to September 3 – after the Hazy Days music festival.

But Funland’s bosses have agreed to open from Saturday to June 18 and then vacate for the festival, before returning in July.

The spring event will feature Britain’s highest swing ride, standing at 65m tall – while the popular Wild Mouse rollercoaster features extra twists and turns and the dodgems track has been expanded.

Funland will be open from 10am until late on weekends and out of school time. In term time it will be closed from Monday to Thursday, and open from 5-9pm on Fridays.

The free-to-enter park works on a token system with rides priced £1-4.

James Rogers of organisers Event Attractions Ltd, said he is ‘very excited’ to extend Funland’s stint at the Trop.

He said: “We’ve got a completely different line-up compared to what we had last summer.

“There’s three bank holidays in the period when we’re here in April and May, plus the air show – so it should be really good.

“We’ve had more time to plan this year, so we have made use of every inch of space.”

The Mercury has teamed up with Event Attractions to offer five lucky readers the chance to win a one-day family pass for unlimited rides at Funland.
