AROUND 1,000 people joined together to celebrate a vital community area being safeguarded against development in future generations.

Castle Batch was awash with colour and activity on Friday, when families from across the Worle area enjoyed a fun day.

The Batch has recently been awarded Queen Elizabeth II field status, which means it cannot be built over, and the decision was celebrated with a range of fun and free activities for the area’s youngsters.

Peter Hardaway, of North Worle LAT, said: “Castle Batch has had its fair share of bad publicity over the years, but on Friday the best of community was there for all to see.

“We had a great day and there were many more people than expected but it all went off well and there was only positive comments.”
