HARDY cider lovers braved chilly conditions and turned out in record numbers at the annual wassail at Rich's Farmhouse Cider orchard in Watchfield.

More than 400 tickets were sold for the traditional event, originally a medieval southern English drinking ritual to ensure a good cider harvest during the year, and more than £3,000 was raised in total.

Queen Kadie Wall, aged nine, was paraded around the orchard in a wooden chair as visitors got into the spirit of the night, sampling the local cider and dressing in middle-age attire for the event.

Burnham Rotary Club also helped to organise and run the event, which was raising money for the Stroke Association.
