AMATEUR raft rowers sailed their home-made vessels against the RNLI in a bid for nautical domination in Weston’s Marine Lake on the weekend.

The raft race event was part of the charity’s Lifeboat Week, a period of fundraising for the volunteer lifeboat organisation which saw treasure hunts, sandcastle competitions and an open day held through the town.

The events helped raise more than £7,500 for the charity to continue its life-saving work at sea – the importance of which was illustrated by two tragic deaths in waters off Weston and Burnham last week.
