MORE than 80 households put musical-themed scarecrows in their gardens as part of Uphill's sixth scarecrow festival.

Scarecrows based on musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rogers and Hammerstein drew hundreds of visitors to the village to admire people’s creations.

The weekend of events included cream teas in St Nicholas Church, and a barn dance in the Victory Hall.

Stewart Castle of Uphill Village Society said: “It was very successful. The weather was good for us, and the barn dance was extremely well-attended.”

Some people used the opportunity to raise money for charity, and the Little Orchard cul-de-sac took donations for Weston RNLI’s £300,000 appeal to build a new lifeboat station in the town.

A cake sale next to a Mary Poppins scarecrow raised more than £100 for Save The Children.
