Gates to island

AN UPMARKET island community in Weston has been granted its wish for extra security following a spate of crime.
People living on Knightstone Island have won planning permission to install security gates at the entrance to their apartments and car park.
The residents group, called Knightstone Island Limited, called for the measure following a series of antisocial behaviour incidents and car thefts.
The gates will cost the 86 residents living on the island, who called for the gates in a survey, up to £14,000.
North Somerset Council approved the application last week after concluding the gates were in keeping with the site, and no harm would be caused to the conservation area.
The public will still be able to access the island by the causeway and walk around the development, but are permitted from accessing the residential area.
