Gateway plans are ready to go

IT IS full steam ahead for plans to create a hotel, retail centre, pub, restaurant and offices on the edge of Weston.
A major employment, housing and leisure development is set to be created to the north of Somerset Avenue, next to West Wick, and the final pieces are falling into place.
The developer has completed an agreement to give hundreds of thousands of pounds in contributions to community facilities, affordable housing and highways.
A large dental practice has said it is interested in moving onto the site, which could provide 100 jobs and Knightstone Housing also looks likely to move its main offices into the development.
It is thought that almost 1,000 jobs could be created as part of the plans for Weston Gateway.
Some minor amendments to the planning applications were made - and approved - during a council meeting on June 8.
The first application is for up to 6,800sqm of office space, 4,200sqm of warehouse room, an 80-bed hotel, retail centre, pub and restaurant.
The blueprint is at the outline planning stage and there are also proposals to create an access road for vehicles, off the West Wick roundabout.
The second application is for 218 homes and will be agreed subject to approval of the first application.
The proposals were originally submitted in March.
The developers say they have had ‘considerable’ interest in the employment site north of Somerset Avenue and need approval to be granted as soon as possible to encourage and enable people to plan their move into the site.
