A SHORTLIST of the best food and drink businesses in Weston and the surrounding area has been drawn up after two weeks of nominations from Mercury readers - and now you can vote for the winners.

The Mercury is again supporting the Weston super Food Festival, which will be held on September 27-28.

Festival organisers promise this year’s event will be bigger than ever, with more stalls, food demonstrations and entertainment throughout the weekend.

Nomination forms for the Weston super Food Awards have been pouring into the Mercury offices for the past two weeks.

The businesses with the most nominations have made it onto the final shortlists - and voting for the winners starts on Monday.

The best restaurants, takeaways, cafes and independent food businesses have all been shortlisted and there are also awards up for grabs for the best fish and chips, pub food, breakfasts and drinks.

Festival organiser Sally Packer said: “We are delighted to recognise all the wonderful food businesses we have in and around Weston with the Weston super Food Awards.

“The awards celebrate quality and great taste, and demonstrate that we have an excellent and rapidly-growing local food culture of which we can be really proud.”

To vote for your favourites, log onto www.westonmercury.co.uk from Monday to Thursday next week and again between September 8-11, where a different category will be available each day.

Voting will close at 9am on September 12, when the winners will be decided in a three-way vote from the online poll on the website, festival organisers and Mercury representatives.

In the event of a tie, the public vote will be decisive in choosing the winners.

The winners will be announced and prizes handed out at the festival at 10.45am on September 27 in the demonstration kitchen in the Winter Gardens.

The list of winners will also be published in the Mercury, along with a round-up of all the exciting events taking place during the festival.

This year the awards are being sponsored by Pappadoms Indian takeaway, which is therefore not eligible for an award.
