SPOOKY goings-on in Cheddar have sparked the interests of a ghost hunting team.Ghost Hunters South West will be using high-tech sound recorders, night vision video recorders and will be taking along a psychic to see if there really are ghosts in the caves and gorge.Ghost hunt organiser David Thomas said: "We have been told that some people have heard screaming in the gorge and a lot of people say the area is very spooky. We have been contacted quite a few times over the past few weeks about the caves."After hearing all the rumours flying around we decided to investigate for ourselves."David will be taking along his wife Christine, who is a psychic. David will do research on the history of the caves before visiting, but will not tell Christine what he has found out. On the visit, Christine will attempt to contact spirits and talk to them.David said: "We will obviously be holding the investigation at night. It has to be at night so we get the right atmosphere, to make it really spooky."Tourist Susan Fardon took photographs in Gough's caves while visiting Cheddar. She said the photographs have distinct orbs on them, which she says could indicate a paranormal presence. But Cheddar Caves and Gorge spokesman Bob Smart is sceptical. He said: "We have had people saying they have seen a white lady stood on the grand staircase in Gough's Cave and other people say they have felt an eerie presence. "The caves do get very dark and sometimes the mind can play tricks on you. "We have had Buddhists asking if they can meditate in the caves and night staff have also mentioned seeing things. A lot of people think the caves are very spiritual. "We have statues of goblins which someone took a picture of and sent it off to magazines saying it was a spirit in the Arabian Desert, so I guess things like that are quite easy to make up."Ghost Hunters South West will be contacting the cave owners and hope to visit the village in August.
