Archant

A GROUP of kind-hearted villagers has been working hard to make life that little bit easier for soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

Barbara Slinger and other volunteers in Preanes Green, Worle, have packed dozens of shoeboxes and sent them off to the Middle East.

In October 2009, members at the resource centre, off Clovelly Road, starting sending the parcels packed full with treats and useful bits, but then the facility had to close.

So the collection of boxes now sits at Barbara’s home until they are flown off to soldiers.

Barbara said: “We have received some wonderful letters from the servicemen and women thanking us for the boxes and saying how much it means to have the support and kindness from us and our friends.”

The group has just sent its 100th shoebox.
