A girl was airlifted to hospital yesterday (Sunday) after falling off a horse on Weston-super-Mare beach.

Multiple emergency service crews were on hand to tend to the youngster, who sustained a back injury in the fall at 9.44am.

Police, ambulance, RNLI and coastguard crews responded to the incident, administering first aid.

The girl was then flown to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children by Great Western Air Ambulance.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9:44am and attended with an air ambulance, an operations officer and an ambulance.

“One patient was taken to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children via air ambulance with reports of a back injury.”

Weston Coastguard Rescue team praised the joint efforts of the emergency services, describing it as a ‘good multi-agency teamwork call out’.
