CALLOUS thieves snatched more than £100 from the till of a Nailsea charity shop. Two girls walked into the RSPCA shop in Nailsea High Street at around 4.10pm on Friday afternoon and snatched £120 from the till. The pair, believed to be aged between 18 and 24, waited until the shop assistant was busy helping a customer in the changing area before grabbing the money. They then made off on foot up the High Street towards Tesco. The store's volunteer treasurer Alan Plumpton said he had warned other shops in the area to be on their guard following the theft.Mr Plumpton said: "One of our volunteers was helping a customer when they heard the till open."She looked round and saw the two girls running out of the door."The amount of money was nearly a day's takings. "This pair have deprived some poor, defenceless animal of the care such a sum of money would provide. "It takes time and effort of many volunteers to turn the donated goods into cash and every penny is hard earned."The incident has been reported to police and checks will be made of the town's CCTV system to see if the pair was captured on camera. One of the thieves is described as having long black hair with a fringe. Both were wearing light blue trousers. Anyone with information about the theft should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.People who paid by cheque at the store on Friday are being asked to contact the shop supervisor on 01275 857055.
