STUDENT behaviour at Portishead Primary School is outstanding - according to Ofsted inspectors. In a report out this week, inspectors said the pupil's behaviour is 'outstanding in lessons and around the school' and that they make a good contribution to the school community. They highlighted how older pupils have taken on the role of playtime buddies to help make playtimes happy and harmonious.Inspectors also said that the very good provision of the Foundation Stage is the result of commitment and good teaching. The report added that children's progress in personal and social development is particularly strong and children develop good levels of concentration, independence and self organisation.Standards are also above average in year six and the school provides good levels of pastoral care. The report also said 'the strong inclusive ethos of the school has been maintained as can be seen from the very good relationships, pupil's good personal development and their pastoral care. The inspectors also highlighted some areas for further improvement including more rigorous monitoring procedures of teaching across the school.Headteacher Mike Scriven said: "I am delighted that Ofsted are in agreement with us as to our many strengths, high standards, outstanding behaviour and positive attitudes to name a few."The whole school plays its parts in ensuring that children make an excellent start in the Foundation Stage, successfully engage pupils' interest and enjoyment and by year six prepare them well for their future learning."Chair of governors, Mike Lockett, said: "I am pleased the inspectors recognised the dedication of the headteacher and staff in successfully maintaining the school's inclusive ethos through its recent rapid growth and move to the new site."The children are also to be congratulated on their exemplary behaviour and their positive attitude towards learning.
