A GRAND auction will take place to sell off 60 intricately decorated swans from around Somerset for charity.

Wedmore traders and artists have taken part in this event and have proudly displayed their swan, named Jubilee, in the village.

The swan was painted by artist Maria Silmon, who took inspiration from the Queen and experience from her former profession as a clothing designer when painting Jubilee, who is encrusted with Swarovski crystals and covered in a royal purple cloak.

The swan will be collected along with 59 others from around Somerset – one for each year of the Queen’s reign - and will be auctioned off after a preview weekend at The Bishop’s Palace, Wells, on September 15 and 16, to raise money for local charities.
