Staff at the Grand Pier have raised hundreds of pounds for a homeless charity by auctioning off its famous nutcracker statues.

To mark the end of this year’s Nutcracker Christmas parties, which have been held throughout the festive season at the pier in Marine Parade, managers decided to auction the much-loved nutcrackers for local homeless charity Comfort And Warmth, which runs a Christmas homeless shelter in St Paul’s Church.

The event raised £850 for the cause and events manager Hollie Otley told the Mercury the staff wanted to raise money for the less fortunate this Christmas time.

She added: “The charity does a fantastic job of providing food and warm shelter to the homeless over the festive period and we wanted to support such a worthy cause.

“Our customers loved the idea and jumped at the chance to own one of the gorgeous nutcrackers themselves.”
