COMMUNITY recycling enthusiasts have been given the green light to use a car park for collecting plastic.Winscombe Community Association was using Sandford Road car park to set up a recycling point for people to give in their used plastic items including bottles and containers. The group has now been given a licence from North Somerset Council to use the area regularly.Gillian Hill is part of the association and helped start up the community project when she held a flowerpot collection point at Thursday's Winscombe Market. She took pots people had given her to a recycling plant. In the last community collection, over two tonnes of plastic bottles and bags were collected as part of the project. The group had a trial run for plastic recycling a month ago, filling nearly two fully sized industrial skips.Winscombe Woodborough Primary School in Moorham Road, has also got behind the scheme and children brought in plastic items to be recycled. The licence now allows the group to use the car-park every other month starting from February.Gillian said: "It's great the community's involved and also Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council is helping with funding for more recycling projects and we hope for further sponsorship. The licence is a massive boost.
