Villagers in Wedmore grabbed their litter pickers and bags to take part in a clear up at the weekend.

Green Wedmore hosted the event for Keep Britain Tidy’s Big Tidy Up, a national initiative aiming to get communities actively involved in looking after their area.

Dozens of people turned out donned in high-vis jackets. They headed around the centre of the village picking up and disposing of items along the way.

Green Wedmore is at the heart of a drive to reduce the village’s carbon footprint and is currently campaigning to install solar panels on the village hall roof.

The Mercury is also running its Cleaner Coastlines campaign to try to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used in North Somerset with a view to achieving Plastic-Free Coastline Status.
