GRITTERS will be out in force in Somerset over the next few nights as temperatures are expected to drop to eight degrees below freezing.

Somerset County Council’s 23 gritting lorries will treat main roads and those leading to schools and hospitals.

Temperatures are expected to fall to as low as -8°C on Wednesday and Thursday.

North Somerset council confirmed it will be gritting roads from 6pm tonight (Tuesday).
