Group’s plea for helpers

A charity is looking for people in Weston-super-Mare to sign up as voluntary befrienders to help elderly people living in the town.
The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) says it has 22 elderly people in Weston on its waiting list, but is unable to allocate befrienders to these people as it does not have enough volunteers in the area on its books.
A spokesman for the charity said: “Numbers are increasing at an alarming rate in Weston and we are finding it extremely difficult to meet the demands for befriending.”
To become a befriender, contact Sharon Donkin on 01275 400945.
