A new Party In The Park shindig will be held in Weston-super-Mare next week as part of a national campaign – and organisers hope it could become an annual event.

The Friends of Grove Park have been increasingly active in the High Street park of late, carrying out planting projects and more recently sprucing up the rockery area.

Now, the group is organising a community picnic to coincide with a national celebration of parks and open spaces.

Group secretary Anne Bunn said: “This is a free and very relaxed community day, and people are welcome to bring along any family games or simple activities to encourage interaction with others.

“This event is all about enjoying outside time with old and new friends, so please come along and make it happen.”

The event is set to run run from noon to 4pm on July 8 near the rockery.
