GUIDES from Weston and across North Somerset sampled a slice of the Olympic atmosphere during a trip to the Paralympics.

Members of a number of Somerset troops joined peers from across the country when they travelled to the Olympic Park in Stratford to watch athletics, swimming, cycling and football.

The patriotic youngsters were all kitted out in Union Jack neckerchiefs and flags to cheer on the home competitors. A spokesman said: “We all had a fantastic day at the Paralympics cheering on the athletes at the Aquatic Centre, Veladrome, Riverbank Arena and Olympic Stadium. It was a day we shall never forget.”
