TWO men charged with the burglary of a Weston-super-Mare hairdresser’s salon on Sunday morning have been released on bail.

Cut ‘n’ Curl salon in Baker Street, in the town centre, was raided at 12.40am on Sunday morning and a children’s hospice charity box and small change were stolen.

Witnesses immediately came forward and the men were arrested by police five minutes later, before appearing at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where they admitted burglary.

Darren Wedmore, aged 31, and Ben Knowlden, aged 29, broke in by smashing the glass of the salon’s front door.

Cash believed to have been stolen from the salon has now been recovered and owner Suzie Davies congratulated police on dealing with the situation swiftly. Business has been resumed as normal.

She told the Mercury: “They came in the early hours of the morning. The police got them, so well done. I’m glad they got justice.”

Neighbourhood Sergeant Mark Jenkinson said: “We’re grateful to the members of the public who called us to report this incident. We always want to hear about crime or suspicious behaviour as it happens.”

He added: “The calls from the members of the public as this incident took place were absolutely key to these arrests and I’d like to express my thanks.”

The bail includes an overnight curfew and the men will appear before North Somerset magistrates for sentencing on October 26.
