A HAND grenade was discovered at a recycling centre in Highbridge yesterday (Thurs).

Police were called to Bennett Road at about 3pm after the device was found by staff at the Isleport Business Park facility.

Roads in the area were closed for some three hours while a bomb disposal team from Didcot analysed the device and made sure it was safe. It turned out to be a deactivated hand grenade.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a suspicious object, possibly a hand grenade at about 3pm.

“The object was locked in a secure armoured ammunition box and taken away by the bomb disposal team.”
